Vestibular Testing (VNG)

  • Videoelectronystagmography (VNG) testing is a series of tests, including nystagmus testing, optokinetic and positional testing,  that measure eye movements using infrared technology to look for vestibular dysfunction. It is a groundbreaking balance test that measures bilateral vestibular loss through a noninvasive study. The test examines nystagmus to assess the relationship between eye movement and the inner ear. The test requires patients to wear goggles while their eye movements are recorded by infrared camera. Patients follow objects that move erratically, consistently or remain stationary. Eye movements are recorded and analyzed. Difficulty following visual targets could indicate neurological dysfunction.
  • Sample Clinical indications: Dizziness, central/peripheral vertigo, central hearing loss, benign paroxysmal vertigo
